17/09/07 Latest Album Reviews
The album continues to attract great reviews. Here's the latest two:
"...their album is great. Not just indie great, but genuinely, inventively, surprisingly great. The BDI's are full of soul, funk, style and good music and by thunder, they deserve success.
It would be unfair to single out single tracks for praise because it's a tremendous body of work but 'Still Get The Same Old Kick' sears with a throaty intensity that's as good as anything a British soul band could produce.
Shameless homage it may be, but the BDI's shouldn't care. They've created a record that's as needed in today's music scene as a serial killer is in future series of Big Brother. Listen out for this trio and you won't be disappointed." Chris Stanley, tastyfanzine.org.uk
"This is London based trio The BDI's debut album and a refreshing album it is too. With live instrumentation throughout including acoustic guitar, congas and horns, it's firmly rooted in the sound of 70s Soul and Rhythm & Blues and in places reminds me of Traffic. Tracks such as 'Crying Wolf', 'Still Get The Same Old Kick' and 'Marathon' really hit the spot but this album is a pleasure to listen to from start to finish." Andy Allen, basic-soul.co.uk

24/08/07 Album review on Teletext
Alistair Clay of Teletext made The BDI's one of the albums of the week, awarding it 8/10:
"Once championed by the late Stones producer Jimmy Miller, this Cheshire outfit recall the stripped down funk of early Stevie Wonder.
Their real talent lies in what they don't play, rather then what they do. It would be all too easy to layer lush arrangements over these sweet soul sounds, ruining them in the process.
And it's because they leave the syrup out of the receipe that they create a genuine soul sensation." Alistair Clay, Teletext
